I won tickets from Triple J to go and see '2:37.' If you haven't heard of it, it's a new Australian movie and it is very, very, very good. It's rated R and very understandably so. If you ask google or IMDB they will probably be able to tell you about it. It carved up at Cannes and will probably do so elsewhere. I'd rate this 13.4 out of 13.5. The only let down in this movie was the soundtrack. Recently, Australian movies have put a severe amount of emphasis on the soundtrack, but sadly, this one did not. It was still exceptional and I recommend everyone go and see it...or at least tell me they did.
The movie follows a day in the life of a group of high school students in grade 12. One of the students commits suicide and the movie focuses on the lead up to that event. It uses a school documentary to give insight in to the thoughts, attitudes and beliefs of the main students in the movie which is an excellent way of portraying these young people as believeable characters. All the students have severe issues in their lives that they are dealing with and it is very reminiscent of everyone's school-hood. It is based on a true story that occurred in the director's school and involved his friends.
Check it out.
Also, shout out to Nick-o for coming along and also to Jimmy for helping me kill time in the city.
I applied for a job recently as a Project Officer within the Queensland Police Department. My role would be primarily to work on Crime Prevention Strategies and to contribute to the police in that area by way of seminars, actions plans and the like. It sounds like a lot of fun and I really hope I get it.
I saw the Strokes Last thursday night and they were exceptional. This is the second time I have seen them. The first obviously being BDO '04. I think that they performed much better the first time, even if this album is a shit load better than 'Room On Fire.' The mere fact that it was their own show and not a festival made the atmosphere so much better than BDO.
Just like last time, I was near the front (was in the front row last time - second this time) and just like last time, Julian jumped off stage and played around with the crowd. He stood near me, but a step back from the barrier. Three of us leaned forward and grabbed his leather jacket and pulled him toward us - then we wouldn't let him go. Just like last time, I rubbed his head and started singing in to the mic with him.
Fab was a lot more drunk last time, as was Julez, so they were more entertaining but it was still a killer night.
The support were fairly awesome as well, as was the background music during the interludes.
The day after the Stokes, I had to drive Tanille to Inskip so that she could catch the barge to Fraser Island. For those who don't know, Inskip is past Gympie and therefore about 3 hours drive from here. I actually had a lot of fun on the drive - even the drive back on my own. I stopped in some small town for a skate and then I dropped in on my grandparents for a quick visit.
They gave me my birthday present early while I was there - $100 slammers. I'm not sure if they realise I am going to use it to rent a porta-potty for my b'day bash (details to follow shortly).
